DOWEN College: Mr Sylvester Oromoni Speak On What Killed Son

Mr Sylvester Oromoni mourns the death of his 12 year old son whom he named after himself and the last born of 10. Junior as was fondly called passed away after sustaining multiple internal injuries alleged to have been sustained after he was bullied by his fellow students.

A video clip from the hospital shows Sylvester Oromoni Junior in pains. The video shows the boys leg were swollen, his teeth were stained dark red with blood and one side of his belly swollen. The struggle to save his life hits the rocks as he couldn't make it.

Perry Oromoni a relative took to Twitter to share his account of what transpired, explaining of how the deceased boy was attacked for refusing to join what he termed the secondary school "Cult group" in the school located in Lekki.

The school authority of DOWEN College, Lekki had denied the claims and issued it's own story of what happened to Sylvester that claimed his life. According to them, one of the school's hostel officials had informed the management on 21th November , 2021 that Junior was injured while playing football with his colleagues.  The school also disclosed that Sylvester was given first aid by a resident nurse and returned to his hostel after he expressed relief . But he started complaining of pains in his hips the next day

According to DOWEN College, the student was attended to  a second time by a doctor at the school sock bay. They added that the doctor later later called Junior's mother to inform her of the situation and also recommended that he be picked up. It said that after an initial delay, the student's mother sent a guardian who took him for an x-ray

Five boys were said to have been involved in the bullying, three SS2 student and one SS1 student

Junior's father said, "sons birthday is 4th Dec, next tomorrow and I will celebrate it. I will cut his birthday cake on his behalf.  The boys mentioned was reported were also reported to the school last term when they bullied Junior and collected all his foodstuff,  clothes. I have two daughters, one of whom earlier graduated. I had to remove the second after this incident. They also asked this boy to describe his sister's private part and it got to us". Junior was also switched to another hostel but the bullying never stopped.  The boys also but fear in him so much that when you ask him, he might keep to himself and say, "they will kill me"

Junior was finally flown to Warri where blood tests and X-ray were conducted. He underwent all necessary test both typhoid and malaria. His mouth was peeling of due to excess of malaria drugs side effects

The father also said that it was on 29th November when he went for a government function that Junior opened up to tell what happened to him.

Mr Sylvester said Junior, before has death revealed that he neither played ball nor tripped as claimed. He said that the deceased stated that five Boys had barged into his room, put off the lights and beat him up in the presence of other students. Junior said, "mummy, I didn't play ball, I didn't fall". He jumped off his bed and they kicked him, matched his waist. Other students ran off. The boys threatened to kill them all if they spoke a word to the school staff. They also warned Junior to say he sustained injuries while playing ball. They matched his ribs and waist. If you asked the roommates they will all lie.

The father said he suffered liver enlargement due to congealed blood. It was also claimed that Junior was fed a liquid substance describe as "a chemical" for refusing join the group.
