Biography, Age Of Sonny Okosun
Sonny Okosun was a prominent figure in contemporary Nigerian music. He was born on January 1, 1947 in Enugu, Nigeria to a family of musicians. His musical style, which he called "ozziddi" or "message," was a fusion of reggae, highlife, Afro-funk, and traditional melodies and rhythms. Okosun was heavily influenced by rock musicians such as Elvis Presley and the Beatles, and taught himself to play guitar as a teenager.
Okosun's popularity declined in the late 1980s, but he made a comeback in 1994 with Songs of Praise. Throughout his career, he recorded over 30 LPs in various locations including the U.S. and France. He was a prominent figure at world music festivals worldwide. Sadly, he passed away on May 24, 2008, after a battle with colon cancer in Washington, D.C.
